Diversity in Action will be an exploration of the advantages and challenges of diversity and will feature thought provoking presentations by four very experienced and insightful speakers.

Meet the Presenters:

Santhi Corcoran 

Santhi is a Lecturer and Doctoral researcher at Mary Immaculate College and the University of Limerick. She has a professional background in Healthcare, Psychology, Community Counselling, Education and Social Care.

Santhi has contributed to migration and integration research both in the UK and Ireland and is currently researching Inclusion, Belonging and Well-Being in secondary school communities in the mid-west of Ireland.

 

Razwan Akhtar

Razwan is a leader on the Dublin City Interfaith Forum Youth Board.  He is also a member of the Irish Sufi Foundation which is based at Al Madina Mosque in Dublin City.

As well as his involvement with the integration activities of the DCIF, Razwan is deeply committed to this area of action in every part of his life and work.

Linda Kirwisa 

Linda is a member of the Advisory Committee of AkiDwA, a leading Irish NGO whose work focuses on highlighting the issues faced by migrant women in Ireland.  AkiDwA is short for Akina Dada wa Africa, which means sisterhood in Swahili.

Linda works as a social worker and as well as being active as a community volunteer she is a member of the Limerick City and County Integration Working Group.

Captain Deirdre Carbery

Captain Deirdre Carbery joined the Defence Forces in 2004 and currently works as the Operations Officer in the Defence Forces Training Centre, having just returned from an overseas deployment where she was the Chief of the Information and Psychological Operations Cell in the Force Headquarters of the United Nations Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO). During her deployment with MONUSCO, she was awarded with the Mission Gender Champion Award and the 2018 UN Award for Military Gender Advocate.

Capt. Carbery has vast experience and has been the recipient of many awards and has a comprehensive background in Gender, Diversity, Engagement, Human Rights and Security issues.

 

The Themes:

The themes of the day will touch on the nature of difference and identity and the importance of having an inclusive society for well-being and security.  Most importantly, the presenters at the Diversity in Action Seminar will strive to share concepts and impart skills to support all of us to work, live and flourish in an inclusive, safe, developmental and diverse society.
